Jay began fishing on the Iowa Great Lakes of Okoboji and Spirit Lake before he could walk.  He spent many days sleeping under the console of his father’s bass boat but his best memories were made hauling in big fish.

He deviated from the world of tournament bass fishing to fly fish in Montana, Colorado, Wyoming and Texas only to find himself missing the high energy of the tournament trail. After returning to the midwest, he quickly returned to tournament fishing for Large and Smallmouth Bass.

In the midwest he fished the NBAA Tournament Trail, Fishers of Men, Iowa Premier Bass, and several other local tournaments. But fishing locally was not enough to satisfy his desire to compete at a higher level.

In 2013, Jay made a move to Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri to pursue his passion for the professional tournament trail. Centrally located, Jay is able to travel across the country to fish many states and lakes each year.

From the BASS Central Opens to the FLW EverStart and Rayovac Trails, Grave can be found on the front end of a Ranger boat fishing on the pro side. Along with the National trails, Jay competes in the Anglers in Action Pro-Solo as well as the AIA Team Open Division.

Keeping a fast paced travel schedule, Jay keeps up with his endorsements and fans via Social Media Outlets.
